IRVSRA gets it's roots way back in the 1980's before SRA's were possible. In fact one of the oldest and longest running programs at Pekin Park is Sunshine Camp, a summer day camp tailored to young children with special needs and intellectual disabilites.
Pekin and Fon du Lac Park Districts form an offical Special Recreation Association (SRA) pooling resources to provide recreational programs and leisure services to residents and non-residents with developmental disabilities. A board of directors is formed and the name is chosen: Illinois River Valley Special Recreation Association.
IRVSRA continues to provide integrated and specialized programs to all residents of Tazwell County. Peer groups are invaluable. IRVSRA provides opportunities to individuals with disabilities to surround themselves with friends and neighbors that share commonalities. It is our pleasure to provide these athletic and social settings for the special needs population in the Tazewell County area. This website is here to help you get connected and stay up to date with news, programs, activities, and cancellations. There are multiple ways to get involved with IRVSRA. We hope you take the time to go over everything in the website and current program brochure. Details on how to obtain the current brochure can be found under the 'Merchandise' tab of our online store. Active participants receive a free copy in the USPS mail every brochure release.
